Ann L. McGuirk, 69, of Newark, Del., formerly of Jessup, died Saturday at
Christiana Care Hospital.
   
She was the wife of Francis R. McGuirk, Sr.
    Born in Jessup, she was the youngest of 12 children born to the late John
and Mary Gavenda Skovira. She graduated from the University of Maryland at
College Park in 1956 with a bachelor of science degree in physical therapy.
She also attended the D.T. Watson School of Physiatrics in Pittsburgh as part
of the University of Maryland’s physical therapy program.
   
She began her career as a staff physical therapist with the Lackawanna
County Society for Crippled Children and Adults. She later served as Chief
Physical Therapist at Pocono Medical Center, White Haven Medical Center and
Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
   
Throughout her career she also provided home health-care services to
numerous disabled patients. Ann was an avid music lover and taught her
children and grandchildren how to sing and appreciate all types of music. She
enjoyed cooking, sewing, spending time with her family and traveling within
the United States and throughout Europe. Ann will be sorely missed but will
always be remembered for her charitable acts of kindness to those around her
especially those in need.
   
Also surviving are five children; four daughters, Dr. Barbara McGuirk and
her husband Scott Millar, and Nadine Shaw and her husband Jeff, all of Newark,
Del.; Judy Clements and her husband, Bob of Hanover Township; and Noreen
Hecmanczuk and her husband Dave, of Arlington, Va.; and a son, Francis R.
McGuirk Jr. and his wife Deanna, of Wyoming, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; nieces and
nephews.
   
The funeral will be Thursday from the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511
Church St., Jessup, with a traditional solemn Latin mass at 10 a.m. in St.
Michael’s Church, Jackson St., Scranton. Interment St. Michael’s Cemetery,
Jessup.
   
Friends may call Wednesday 6 to 9 p.m.
   
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Ann
L. McGuirk to the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association, which provides
services to disabled children at 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa., 18701.
