WILKES-BARRE – Police are investigating a string of break-ins, thefts and a
holdup around the city over the past week. They are not being considered
connected.
   
All but two were in different city zones, said Sgt. John Curham. “It runs
in cycles.”
    These are the incidents:
   
Daniel T. Howard Jr. was approached from behind on the third block of Dana
Street at 1:30 a.m. Sunday by two males. One held a silver handgun to the back
of his neck. They demanded money, then took $311.50 from his pockets and told
him to run. One man was described as 6-foot-2-inches tall, black, wearing a
black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black down jacket. The other is
described as a black man in a brown hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, white
sneakers and a black leather jacket.
   
An IBM laptop computer, a PlayStation 2 and accessories, 45 DVDs and 10
PlayStation games, worth a total of more than $3,100, were stolen in a
break-in on West Chestnut Street between 5:15 and 6:45 p.m. Friday, Rosemary
Shedlock told police.
   
John Pappas of Horton Street returned home about 6:28 p.m. Friday and
found a person in his home. The suspect ran out the back door and Pappas could
not describe him. The kitchen door had been kicked in.
   
Between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday, a “substantial amount” of
jewelry was stolen from Kimberly Belles’ North Cleveland Street home. The rear
door was destroyed in the break-in.
   
Sometime between Saturday and Monday, a Sony PlayStation, five video games
and 10 DVDs were stolen from the Gates Street home of Hope Tucher.
   
A red and silver 26-inch mountain bike was stolen from the 219 E.
Northampton St. home of Mia Brogden between 9:30 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m.
Friday.
   
A purse was stolen from a 1998 Honda Civic parked at 143 N. Main St.
between 8 and 10 p.m. Friday. The passenger window of the car, owned by Andrea
Viccaro of Grove Street, was smashed.
