YATESVILLE – Melissa Gorski scored a game-high 29 points as Dallas edged
Nanticoke 42-41 Wednesday night in the District 2 Junior High girls basketball
championship game at Pittston Area High School.
Gorski scored all 11 Dallas points in the third quarter as the Mountaineers
took a 30-26 lead into the fourth. Aly Byorick, who scored 19 points, sparked
a Nanticoke comeback with a pair of three-point baskets in the fourth. The
score was tied 37-37 after regulation.
Erin Delaney added seven points for Dallas. Sarah Acker netted eight for
Nanticoke.
Dallas also won the Wyoming Valley Conference championship.
D2 BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP
Scranton Prep 56, Hazleton Area 47
YATESVILLE – Bob McGrath and Kurt Walsh each scored 13 points as the
Cavaliers captured the district’s boys crown.
Prep led 36-33 after three quarters, but McGrath scored nine points and Pat
Jochum added five in the final quarter as the Cavaliers outscored the Cougars
20-14.
Hazleton Area’s Harry Hinkle led all scorers with 23 points. Brandon
Zabinski added 12.
