Joseph Bishop

Joseph W. Bishop, a resident of Heritage Towers Retirement Village,
Doylestown, died Feb. 16, at home.
Born Jan. 2, 1913, in Sayre, he was the son of the late Howard and Mabel
(Corbin) Bishop. He attended Mercersburg Academy and Union College,
Schenectady, N.Y., and received a master’s degree in hospital administration
from the University of Chicago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II,
serving in the Army Medical Administration Corps, 124th General Hospital, in
England and Austria. He served as superintendent of Wyoming Valley Hospital,
Wilkes-Barre, and as director of Community Medical Center, Scranton. He also
served as assistant executive director of Abington Memorial Hospital. He was a
member of the American College of Health executives, American Hospital
Association and was secretary and president of the Hospital Association of
Pennsylvania. He was a member of the American Legion, Doylestown.
Surviving are his wife, the former Emily Dooley; son, Richard, Bel Air,
Md.; daughter, Joan Scott, Doylestown; three grandchildren; sisters, Katherine
Wood, Allentown; Barbara Smith, Palm Beach, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in Sayre.
