The Fourth annual Wilkes-Barre Boat and Fishing Expo will be held March
14-16 at the Ice-a-Rama in Wilkes-Barre. Show promoter Larry Mackinder
promises the event will be a good one.
“We have lots of interesting attractions for all anglers whether they fish
in fresh or saltwater and whether they fish for bass, trout, panfish or any
other species,” Mackinder said. “We also have exhibitors geared towards
boaters, and 10 boat dealers will be on hand with the new 2003 watercraft.”
Cost of admission is $6 for adults; children under 12 are admitted free.
Including the boats on display, Mackinder said there will be plenty of
ATVs, motorhomes, RVs and campers. In addition, he said showgoers will be able
to have a look at “tons” of fresh and saltwater fishing tackle and a huge
display of antique angling gear.
Of course, anglers will be able to book outings with lodge owners and
charter captains.
A live, 450-pound, 19-point red deer will be on display, and anglers will
be able to try their luck in the live trout pond. There will also be a 1000
Islands muskie display.
“There will be experts on hand revealing their craft. Fly-tier Ron
Koslowski will be there, and we will also offer jig-making instruction.
“The Luzerne County Bass Masters will help kids with all their fishing
questions, and Jim Marsh and the HOOK youth angling program has been added to
this year’s show,” Mackinder said.
Giveaways include a mountain bike and a canoe from the Pocono Boat House.
The grand prize from ESPN Radio is a weekend for two, all expenses paid
including meals at Caigers Country Resort on the banks on the St. Lawrence
River in the 1000 Islands area of Canada.
Mackinder added that the first 300 patrons each day will receive a free
boat whistle and compass.
Show hours are March 14, from 1-10 p.m.; March 15, 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.;
and March 16, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
