I’M SO DISAPPOINTED after finding the Wilkes-Barre\Scranton Penguins
picture in the Times Leader without their names printed on the back. Can you
please print them in your newspaper in order that the picture is so I can cut
it out and tape it to the back of the picture before sending it to my
grandson?

I KNEW THERE was an alliance between WBRE and the other paper. I think that
WBRE or anybody is foolish to align themselves with the other paper. It isn’t
going to help, and it sure does hurt.

THE EDITORIAL SAYS that new White House approach won’t do much to improve
security on the Internet. The White House can’t improve security anywhere.
Hasn’t anybody noticed?

I JUST FINISHED reading about the new recommendation that sugar should only
make up 10 percent of your calories, and the food industry steps in with their
pressures and what not. Once these limits have been set and we know that sugar
is not good for us, who cares what the food industry says? You don’t have to
drink soft drinks.

I JUST WANT to say I have to laugh when I read that the Pittston Township
zoning officer had to dig through Rubbermaid tubs to locate an application.
Didn’t he ever hear of filing cabinets?

PARDON ME, BUT the French have been paid back 100 times over for anything
they did for us in the Revolutionary War.

I DON’T BELIEVE having the meetings at King’s College and the state office
building to instruct the water company’s request for increasing our bill for
security was fair to the public. They are two of the worst places for a lot of
people to find a parking place at one time. It seems like they didn’t want a
lot of the public there to voice their opinion.

THE BEST WAY to bring respectability back to the stock market is to
confiscate the assets of the corporate crooks and give back to the stocks that
they stole it from. There is billions of dollars in assets that they stole,
why should they keep it? They can confiscate the assets of drug dealers, why
not corporate crooks? They ruined a lot of lives also.

QUESTION, WHAT WOULD you do if you saw a man dressed like a member of
al-Qaida and wearing a sweatshirt with the name Mohammed across the front? I
saw this man in Kingston during the summer months. I reported this to the FBI
but don’t know if any investigation took place. The FBI never contacted me. Do
you think the FBI did anything about my report?

EDITOR’S NOTE: These days, we’d be willing to bet the FBI’s nervous about
discounting any report, though your description could fit lots of upstanding,
everyday American citizens.

I AM CALLING in reference to the person that spoke about the Ashley
Volunteer Fire Department being immature. I have been involved with the fire
department for over 25 years and I’m also an active member. You better get
your facts straight before you start throwing stones.

I JUST MET Gov. Rendell’s two Lackawanna County picks to be the
northeastern reps, Jim Connors and John Blake. Rendell, you could have done
better.

I’M JUST CALLING in reference to the article you had published regarding
the Wilkes-Barre Area School District and the Bear Creek charter school. It
doesn’t surprise me that the School Board provided the community, Bear Creek,
with such short notice in requesting additional information on their charter
application. It just goes to show the ruthless tactics that the School Board
will employ to ensure that that school doesn’t open.

I LIVE IN Kingston, and my dad lives and owns a home in West Wyoming. He
has been paying his sewer construction fees for over 11 years. Are they almost
over with? How much longer must they pay this sewer construction fee in this
town? Who’s responsible for such a high fee? This is ridiculous. They should
look into some state forgiveness.

GEORGE SMITH’S COLUMN on the hazards of getting back to nature was very
good and, of course, everything in it is true. The one thing that I found
amusing was that evidently the official allowance is no more than two meals
per month of smallmouth bass from the Susquehanna River in Luzerne County.
Anybody who would eat any kind of fish even once from the Susquehanna River
has to be nuts. I wouldn’t even handle a fish that came from the Susquehanna
River, so how the hell would I even get if off my hook to throw it back in?

KUDOS TO THE Jackson Township supervisors and solicitor. You people did in
four months what other supervisors and the solicitor could not do since 1976.
A job well done. Chase Road resident and taxpayer of Jackson Township.

I JUST WATCHED the 6 o’clock news and I saw the city of Wilkes-Barre
defaulted on another million dollar loan. I also noticed the DPW truck picking
up papers at 6:40 at night. There’s no snowstorm, what are you guys doing out
so late collecting newspapers? We’re defaulting a loan and people are working
overtime. Something’s wrong.

EVERY TIME I turn on the television and listen to the news, I see such
stupid things. If there were fighter jets, surveillance planes let’s say,
flying around the coast, off the coast of the United States, what would we do?

THE CNN POLL states that 59 percent are for the United States going to war
with Iraq and 37 percent are opposed. The government is all happy when the
people are speaking in polls. But when the people speak in majorities that
they want troops on the borders to control immigration, the government doesn’t
like that, so they put that aside. Only the polls that they like do they
follow. Does it make any sense?

IN THE HAZLETON Area School District, we need more people like Sam Scalleat
who are willing to speak out. Maybe the public will begin to realize how
unreasonable the superintendent, we presently have, really is. But then again
how many people are willing to have their good name ruined?

THIS IS MARCH 3rd. On TV they just showed the destruction of missiles in
Iraq. How can that be? In February, Hans Blix and his so-called inspectors as
well as the Iraqi spokesman said there were no missiles in Iraq. Now a few
weeks later, it’s a different story and they’re destroying them. How can that
be?

NEAR RECORD GASOLINE prices, energy and utility prices at record levels,
economic growth below 2 percent, corporations not adding new jobs and health
care proposals guaranteed to shorten the lives of many older Americans. The
winners: Bush’s wealthy buddies and the energy and insurance corporations. The
losers: the rest of us. How do you like the Republican economy?

I’M CALLING REGARDING the $4 parking fee at the arena. I don’t think it
would be a bad thing to pay $4 if we didn’t have to walk through dirt and mud
to get to the arena.

WE THE PEOPLE of the United States formed a constitution to protect us and
to protect our rights. And presently it is being destroyed by the Supreme
Court which I believe is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court is appointed by
the president; it is not elected. It is supposed to be a government for the
people and by the people, but it is becoming a government for the Supreme
Court.

ARE POTHOLES SUCH an urgent item that the city of Wilkes-Barre has to waste
money paying people overtime to man phones during the weekend? Wouldn’t
voice-mail suffice to get the location and address, or your name and phone
number, so they could follow up on Monday?

AS YOU KNOW Turkey gave us the shaft on our attempt to fight a war against
Saddam Hussein and Iraq. They gave us a double cross, so to speak. If one bomb
or one rocket lands in Turkey, they’ll scream for the United States to help
them. If they have an ethnic war with the Turks and other groups in Turkey,
they’ll scream for the United States to help them. I say, take a walk.

THE AMERICAN CIVIL Liberties Union, known as the ACLU, defends a flag
burner but prosecutes a person who flies a flag. Isn’t it time we got rid of
this nitwitted outfit?

THE HOLY FATHER of the pope and his emissaries are going to Washington and
all over the world trying to prevent war with Iraq. Isn’t this a bit
hypocritical? It seems to me years ago in history the popes had armies and
went out and did battle with those that dared disagree with their opinions.

THE ACLU AND the environmentalists are going to be the ruination of our
country. First, they won’t allow mining of wonderful coal in Utah that is
odorless, then they won’t allow looking for oil in Alaska. Now I couldn’t
believe my ears when I heard the news tonight. They are objecting to Camp
Pendleton being used for training by our Marines because the endangered
species of frogs are there, and this is essential for the training of the
Marines to save their lives.

I ALWAYS CONSIDERED going to church as a moral obligation and a privilege
for living in America. I never considered it as a form of punishment, but then
I’m not a judge.

THE PENNSYLVANIA PUBLIC Utility Commission’s judge overseeing the
Pennsylvania American Water Co.’s request for a surcharge to cover their
reservoir security cost is the same judge that approved the sale of our former
water company, the Pennsylvania American Water Co., in the first place without
the major portion of our watershed included. So Pennsylvania American Water
Co. customers, don’t expect much from this dude.
