March 8, 2003 Ceinwen DeMarco, a resident of ManorCare, Kingston, and
formerly of Kingston, died Saturday. Born Ceinwen Lewis on July 5, 1918, she
was a daughter of the late Thomas and Bessie Lewis. Mrs. DeMarco lived all of
her life in Luzerne County. She graduated from Forty Fort High School in 1936,
where she was a member of the girls track team. She enjoyed watching old
movies, solving crossword puzzles and listening to the music of Nat King Cole
and Johnny Mathis. She had a sweet tooth and a reputation for baking delicious
bread, rolls and chocolate cake. As a girl her dream was to have many
children. She was often seen riding her bike or walking throughout Forty Fort.
Passersby frequently called out “Hello Mrs. D.!” which she enjoyed. Before
her retirement nearly 20 years ago, she worked for the General Cigar Co. and
later the Wyoming Valley West School District in the Dana Street School. Mrs.
DeMarco was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G. DeMarco Sr. in 1974;
brothers, Harry (Buster) Lewis and Robert Lewis; and sister, Olwyn Oldfield.
Surviving are her eight children, Joseph G. DeMarco Jr., Tunkhannock; Donald
DeMarco, Oxford, Ga.; Ceinwen Rubin, Farmingdale, N.Y.; Margaret DeMarco,
Lancaster; Ilonwhy DeMarco, Swoyersville; Thomas E. DeMarco, Conyers, Ga.;
Olwyn DeMarco, Tucker, Ga.; and Gladys Butler, Loveland, Ohio; 11
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Eddy, Ilonwhy
Sachs, Minnie Caves, Gladys Korey and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family
will hold a memorial service at 8 p.m. Monday at the Hugh B. Hughes Funeral
Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8
p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations
made to the Forty Fort United Methodist Church, a church Mrs. DeMarco was very
fond of and that all her children attended at one time, which is located on
Wyoming and Yeager Avenues, Forty Fort.
