Feds take on case

of credit card fraud

The U.S. Secret Service in Scranton on Friday took over a credit card fraud
investigation affecting customers of Hilton Reservations in Hazle Township
because of its “extensive nature.”

State police had been investigating fraudulent amounts charged to credit
cards at The Heat Zone tanning salon, 215 E. Diamond Ave., Hazleton. State
police at Hazleton executed a search warrant at the business Tuesday and
confiscated credit card information and computer equipment believed to have
been used in commission of a crime.

According to the police investigation, credit card information belonging to
customers of Hilton Reservations, at Humboldt Industrial Park, had been stolen
by an employee. Then those cards were charged fraudulently at The Heat Zone,
police said. Arrests are expected.
