… to students reading across the area. Elementary school students across
Northeastern Pennsylvania – and America – have been immersed in books as part
of Read Across America, a national program encouraging reading. The motivation
and methodology varies from school to school: students at Kistler Elementary
wrote books while some students gather sponsors and raise money for each book
they read. The important result is an introduction to many new books, the
habit of reading and the pleasures it brings. Mea culpa – newspaper editors

the hiring of a son of a Hanover Area board member as a secondary substitute
social studies teacher. Board Secretary Evelyn R. Evans abstained from the
vote and Edward M. Edwards may even have favorable credentials, but the board
didn’t bother to present the qualifications of the other candidate.

The public was also never informed why the secondary social studies teacher
resigned. Watch this one folks. Typically, the substitute will win accolades
and a full-time job with all the trimmings, but the public will never know if
the candidate without family ties might have been that much better.
