Luzerne County Controller Steve Flood – a candidate for county commissioner
– said he will ask the county Democratic Party organization not to endorse
commissioner candidates in the May primary.
The party’s executive committee is scheduled to vote Thursday night on
whether to endorse.Wilkes-Barre mayoral candidate James Verdekal Jr. will meet
voters at 7 p.m. Monday at the Leisure Tavern, 553 N. Pennsylvania Ave.
Verdekal also will be at McKenna’s on Scott Street at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Money
will not be raised at either place, Verdekal said.
“With the advent of more than five Democratic candidates from various
areas within the county, it would be prudent to let these people present their
platforms and agendas, with the voter deciding the eventual outcome,” Flood
wrote in a press release.
County party Chairman Joe Mazur has said the party is leaning against
endorsing.
