MONTOURSVILLE – Loyalsock led from the game’s first basket as the District
4 champion Lancers defeated District 2 third seed Bishop Hoban 59-46 Saturday
in a PIAA Class 2A boys basketball game at Montoursville High School.
The Lancers (23-4) raced to a 16-4 lead six minutes into the game. They
will play District 2 runner-up Pine Grove (21-9) on Wednesday at a site and
time to be announced. Hoban ended its season at 18-10.
Hoban trailed 44-33 early in the fourth quarter, but used a 9-2 run to pull
within 46-42 on two Jeff Craig free throws at 5:26. Loyalsock, though, scored
16 consecutive points to seal the win.
Michael Frank led Hoban with 10 points. Rob Circo added eight. The Argents
shot just 18-for-49 from the field. Joe Buczko had eight rebounds and two
blocked shots.
Loyalsock’s Hakeem Rainier came off the bench to scored a game-high 16
points. Jeremy Dincher added 11. The duo were the Lancers’ top offensive
threats in the District 4 tournament. Rick Adams grabbed nine rebounds.
