THE CRITICISM OF Elaine Curry for her letter to the editor responding to
Sue Schaeffer’s inaccurate letter is completely unwarranted. Anyone who
attends or watches the school board meetings on television knows that Elaine
is always polite and mannerly to everyone. This is often not the case with Sue
Schaeffer. Just as Sue has the right to express her views in letters to the
editor, Mrs. Curry has the right to respond. Freedom of expression, you see,
is not denied to elected officials.
IT WOULD BE terrific if Hazleton adopted an ordinance like Scranton has for
snow removal. Some of the sidewalks on the west side of Locust Street between
First and Third streets still have snow from the previous storm.
THIS IS IN regard to the moron who called in about teachers getting their
master’s degrees. Since when is furthering your education and getting a salary
increase because of it a sign of greed? Even though it’s obviously something
you wouldn’t understand, people who want to better themselves, become
successful and earn more money are intelligent, not greedy. Perhaps you’re
just upset because you don’t have enough brains to further what little
education you must have had. Let’s face it, some people just can’t stand to
see someone they dislike get a great job and succeed. By the way, teachers
have good reason to hold their heads up. You obviously have your head up where
it belongs.
ONCE AGAIN THE supervisors of Kline Township failed to do the right thing
and listen to the people of the community. It started with the fly ash. They
brought dangerous fly ash into Kline Township, filling up the stripping pit
less than a quarter-mile away from the wells in Kline Township, which is our
source of drinking water. Yes, I know they’ll tell you that the fly ash is
nowhere near the wells and that there’s no great danger. They can’t say that.
They never checked into the aquifer, they don’t know about fractures in the
earth and where that fly ash may end up. And it could contaminate our wells.
They never thought of that. They went ahead and they did it because a local
businessman from Kline Township was hauling the fly ash. Now, once more, this
local businessman gets to open up a garage in a residential community which
didn’t operate for 20 years. Once more, the Kline Township supervisors are at
fault. It’s time to vote them out.
I HEARD THAT people are passing around a petition for mayor of Hazleton
with Joe Zoba’s name on it. Doesn’t Joe Zoba live in Conyngham or McAdoo?
Where do you live, Joe Zoba, and why would we want you for mayor of Hazleton?
EDITOR’S NOTE: Zoba says he is not running for mayor, though a petition was
circulated. He said he has been a resident of Hazleton for the last 25 years
and has been voting in Hazleton for that time also. He said his business is
also located in Hazleton. He said other people circulated a petition, but it
was exploratory and he will not be running for any office this year.
I’M CALLING ABOUT the fact that the person who pointed out about Donald
Leshko and the McAdoo Fire Co. possibly making a deal with the majority
Council. If my memory serves me correct, and which I do believe it does, when
Donald Leshko was on Council and the fact about the fire company recouping
money and charging private residents for answering calls was brought up I
believe it was a 3-3 tie it was put to the Mayor and he didn’t act upon it. At
this point, within a month, Leshko had resigned, his vote was abstained
because he couldn’t vote on the issue which caused the 3-3 tie which put it
back on the Mayor. Then, when Leshko resigned, Joe Madochick was put on in his
place. At this time, they brought the issue up two months later and they voted
it in because Madochick was with the majority Council and put the Mayor off
the hook because he was afraid to make a decision and tip his hand that he was
with majority Council all the time. This is what led to the McAdoo Fire
Department turning their votes around and Al Barnhard, who at that time
opposed majority Council, now with majority Council trying to frame Chief
Litchko over a 37-cent stamp and making all kind of ludicrous accusations.
I WONDER IF the Times Leader can tell me who is on the McAdoo sewer
authority board because it seems like they play musical chairs. There’s
certain seats that change and they don’t know who’s replacing them. Last time
I know I only know one and that’s Marion DeBalko. And I don’t know if the
other seats are up for grabs and who got them and who’s on the board.
EDITOR’S NOTE: McAdoo secretary Margie Rodgers said the board members are
Marion DeBalko, John Shigo and Ronald Semasek. Semasek recently replaced
George Puhak.
COULD YOU PLEASE do the citizens of McAdoo a favor. We would like to know
who exactly is on McAdoo’s sewer authority besides Marian DeBalko and John
Shigo. We can’t seem to get the names of who is on the board, who was just
appointed, and who left. Everything is a big secret. Maybe they’ll give you
the information.
EDITOR’S NOTE: If you read a previous call, you will see the answer to your
question. We had no trouble getting the information. How did you try to find
out?
I FIRMLY BELIEVE that future historians will not remember George Bush as
the man who liberated Iraq but the man who gave away the American Southwest to
the Mexicans.
I AM AN ALIEN hunter. I hunt aliens and I was told there is a bunch of
aliens in McAdoo and they meet once a month at a council meeting. I would like
to go to this alien meeting and capture these aliens because (unintelligible)
has given me the title of alien hunter. The talk around the town of McAdoo is
that the town is full of aliens including the police department and council.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Did the Seeker send you? Do you wear tin foil on your head?
I HOPE THE PEOPLE who voted for Ron Gatski for school director realize the
mistake they made. He’s the same kind of school director as he was an
administrator and state representative – terrible.
I SEE WHERE the school directors want to name another field. Move Antinozzi
Field here, change it there. Why don’t we just call it the School Directors
Field or maybe the Ray Saul Field, anything that has to do with Hazleton, not
the Hazleton area. What about the sports stars that came from West Hazleton,
Hazle Township, Sugarloaf? It’s got to be Hazleton, right?
I AGREE WITH the caller who said we did many things that we hated when they
were done by our former enemies. We are now in the process of changing rules.
The President said that if we introduce a resolution at the United Nations and
it’s not passed unanimously, that would be enough. Unless a resolution is
passed unanimously and not vetoed, it’s not a resolution, it’s a failed
resolution. That’s like saying if a law’s not passed in Washington, it’s still
a law because I want it to be a law. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to go
about doing this in the right way. It might take a little more time, but at
least when we finally do go in and clean out that rat’s nest in Iraq, we’ll
know we did it with a clear conscience.
O LITTLE TOWN of McAdoo that nothing good comes out of, I say this. One
more Service Star will have their shining light put out, one more resignation
in the borough. What yet? A deputy will appear in the 93rd. This I guarantee.
I am the Seeker.
FOR ALL WHO care, the Seeker can be an alien from Mars, a man or a woman or
a neutered nothing. He can be nobody. … The Seeker is not a plane, not a
train, not a building. But he is the guy that is for the girl that is the most
sane.
EDITOR’S NOTE: You wouldn’t be the alien hunter, would you? What about that
tin foil?
TO THE SEEKER, do you know how stupid you sound? You not only sound stupid,
you are stupid. You try to sound like something out of medieval times. You’re
not even good enough for now. Go get a job and stop living off the government
and stop writing your silly articles.
EMIL, THIS IS (a local pizza place). With your new add-on, your new total
is $31.25.
EDITOR’S NOTE: SAYSO, though very active, never gets hungry and doesn’t
order pizza.
THIS IS for the Butler Township manager. The last three supervisors who
supported her and her positions were voted out of office. Unfortunately, after
they were elected, they conveniently changed their positions on the manager.
Gee, I wonder why. I can’t imagine her asking the taxpaying residents of
Butler Township to vote for her as county commissioner after she has been
nothing but rude and nasty to the citizens of Butler Township.
I HAVE A QUESTION to ask the Times Leader and other papers in the area. Are
they also charging to put obituaries in, like the Hazleton paper has now
started to do. There’s not a lot of news in the papers sometimes and when you
read the paper the first thing you read is the obituaries. And now they charge
for obituaries? I’m curious to know if other papers in the area are now
starting to do the same thing. Thank you. Bye-bye.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The Times Leader publishes obituaries at no cost if we can
conform them to our style. If someone wants an obituary published exactly as
submitted and the obituary varies from our style, it is run as a paid
advertisement on the obituary page and designated as such by appearing in a
box with a “Pd.” at the bottom.
IT LOOKS LIKE March didn’t go like either a lion or a lamb. It looks like
it’s coming in like a heifer.
THIS IS FOR our majority school board directors. Whose child needs a job
now? Who has a guidance teaching certificate? Why are you doing this to Sam
Scalleat? You tried the same things with Tony Ryba. Who had the experience to
fill Tony Ryba’s shoes? Oh, he’s running for school board director now. You
couldn’t get rid of Tony Ryba, you’re not going to get rid of Sammy Scalleat.
Both of them are fine individuals and they do their jobs correctly. So
majority School Board directors, stop playing your little games. We know how
rotten you are. It’s just like child’s play.
TWO WEEKS AGO, Sammy Scalleat suggested that the School District
administration building is a lot quieter and more professional without Dr.
Shepperson in it. Since then he has become public enemy number one, along with
Saddam Hussein. The attacks against Mr. Scalleat have been ugly and personal,
just the kind of things that Dr. Shepperson has been accused of initiating
against her enemies in the past. The pattern here is clear. Anyone who has the
courage to criticize Dr. Shepperson is going to be held up to public ridicule
by her supporters.
IF SAM SCALLEAT thinks one person made all those calls against him, he is
mistaken. He left himself wide open when he was quoted a few weeks ago.
Apparently there are many more people than he thinks who know what this man is
really like and it’s about time he was exposed.
IN THE YELLOW pages it says “Let your fingers do the walking.” The McAdoo
Borough sewer authority, when they get millions and millions of dollars, I
wonder if their fingers were doing the walking. I do believe so.
