John Pliska

John P. Pliska, 84, of Duryea, died Saturday at the Gino Merli Veterans
Center, Scranton.
Born in Duryea, he was a son of the late Teofil and Mary (Bartnicki)
Pliska. He graduated from Duryea High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air
Corps during World War II. He was the operator of Pliska Auto Service Station,
Duryea. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Duryea, and the VFW Post 1227,
Duryea.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Estelle Glomb; brothers,
Henry, Anthony, Frank and Edward; sisters, Amelia Marcinko and Della Gibbons.
Surviving are his sons, John, Avoca; Robert, Duryea; daughter, Patricia
Wardle, Nottinghamshire, England; nine grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard, Rockville, Md.; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Bernard J. Piontek
Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at
9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery,
Duryea.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The VFW will conduct military
services Wednesday morning.
