PENGUINS REPORT

When you’re hot: Although Syracuse enters its game tonight against
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 14 games under .500, the Crunch has played well of late.
They’re on a four-game winning streak, having won their last two games on
Friday and Saturday at St. John’s, Newfoundland, against the Maple Leafs.
Scoreboard watching: The results on Sunday night were favorable for
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, as the two teams the Penguins are chasing in the South
Division of the American Hockey League’s Western Conference lost. Norfolk was
shut out by Philadelphia, 2-0, and Hershey lost at Binghamton, 3-1. That means
the Penguins stayed five points behind Hershey and eight in back of Norfolk.
The division champ gets a top-three seed for the Calder Cup playoffs.

Streak snapped: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton C Milan Kraft’s 11-game point streak
was snapped Saturday night, but just barely. Kraft hit a shot off the goalpost
during the game, ending a streak during which he scored seven goals and 11
assists. He also had scored a goal in four consecutive games prior to the
contest against Hershey.
