WILKES-BARRE
Man sentenced in
girl’s sexual assault
Richard Hornick of Sheridan Manor in Wilkes-Barre was sentenced Monday to
four to eight years in a state prison for sexually assaulting a girl.
Police said Hornick invited his relative’s girlfriend to his apartment,
where he assaulted the girl on Sept. 1, 2001.
A Luzerne County jury in September found Hornick guilty of a single count
of sexual assault, but it couldn’t reach a verdict on a rape charge.
Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas Judge Joseph Augello sentenced
Hornick.
WILKES-BARRE
Man gets minimum
sentence in incident
Wendell Header, 35, of Hegins in Schuylkill County, was sentenced Monday to
one to 20 months in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on a single count
of corruption of minors.
Police said Header and a 17-year-old boy left Dauphin County in January
2002 for a business trip. They spent a night at Genetti’s Motor Lodge in Hazle
Township, where the teenager claimed Header sexually assaulted him.
Header was initially charged with felony involuntary deviate sexual
intercourse and misdemeanor charges of indecent assault and corruption of
minors.
But a lack of cooperation from the victim forced prosecutors to drop the
more serious charges.
Header’s attorney, Demetrius Fannick, told Luzerne County Court of Common
Pleas Judge Joseph Augello he believed the victim was not cooperative with
prosecutors because the acts were consensual. Header pleaded to the corruption
charge because the boy was 17, Fannick said.
Augello sentenced Header, who was given immediate parole because he had
already served the minimum sentence.
