RICE TWP. – An area man died Tuesday night when he was ejected from a
vehicle after a crash on the southbound I-81 Nuangola exit ramp Tuesday night,
said Chief Deputy Coroner William Lisman.

The elderly man, whose identity is being withheld pending police
notification of family members, was declared dead at the scene by ambulance
officials shortly after the 9:30 p.m. crash. The coroner’s office confirmed
the death at 11 p.m., Lisman said. The male driver, who was from the
Wilkes-Barre area, failed to negotiate a turn on the exit ramp, Lisman said.
The man came to rest near his blue vehicle, believed to be a van. It was
destroyed. The man did not have any passengers.
Pennsylvania State Police in Hazleton are investigating the crash but did
not release any information Tuesday night. Lisman said investigators were able
to learn the man’s name and address from identification at the scene.
