DUPONT – Environmental cleanup workers were called to the Buckeye Pipeline
Co. Wednesday morning after employees discovered a break in a pipeline,
according to Stephen Bekanich, of the Luzerne County Emergency Management
Agency.

Bekanich said about 200 gallons of a gasoline and oil mixture seeped into a
drainage culvert that empties into a small creek.
He was unsure how many gallons of the mixture entered the creek, which is a
tributary of Mill Creek.

“We don’t expect any major environmental damage,” Bekanich said.

Bekanich said the spill is being cleaned up by TEEM Environmental Services
of Old Forge and the work is being overseen by the Department of Environmental
Protection.

He expects the cleanup to be complete by early today.
