Joseph Stralka

Joseph Stralka, 89, of West Enterprise Street, Glen Lyon, Newport Township,
died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Nov. 4, 1913, in Glen Lyon, he was a son of the late Michael and Agnes
(Boyek) Strzalka. He attended Newport Township High School and was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II, serving as a technician 5th grade with the military
police in the 232nd General Hospital. He received the Good Conduct, American
Theatre Service, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service and Victory medals. He was
employed as breaker by the Susquehanna Coal Co., Glen Lyon and by the Pratt &
Whitney Aircraft Corp., Detroit. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish,
Glen Lyon and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8353, Newport Township.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Lepkowski and Celia Davies;
brothers, John, Walter and Stanley Stralka.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Military funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the George A.
Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon, with a Mass of Christian
Burial at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish, with the Rev. Michael Quinnan,
officiating. Interment will be in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Glen Lyon.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today. The members of the VFW Post 8353
are to meet at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home to conduct services.
