MOVE COPY TO THE WAR DIRECTORY. DIDIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Petty Officer 2nd
Class Scott R. McLaughlin, son of retired Master Chief Petty Officer Mark and
Patricia McLaughlin of Kingston, is in the eighth month of what was a
scheduled six-moth deployment while assigned to the USS Mobile Bay CG53, a
guided missile cruiser in the USS Abraham Lincoln Battle Group. The group left
San Diego in July and was scheduled to return in January. After port visits to
Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Bahrain, the group cruised into the Arabian
Gulf in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They were returning home after
a New Year’s visit to Australia when they were ordered to return to the gulf
for an extended, indefinite period. While on deployment, Scott has earned his
Enlisted Surface Warfare Pin. A cryptologic technician, Scott enlisted in the
Navy in January 2000 in Harrisonburg, Va.
Marines Corps Reserve called four area residents to active duty in support
of Operation Enduring Freedom while assigned to Motor Transport Maintenance
Co., 4th Force Service Support Group, home based in Allentown. They are Lance
Cpl. Jared C. Starvatow, Lance Cpl. Mario M. Tommaselli, Gunnery-Sgt. Michael
C. Steinruck and Lance Cpl. Robert W. Hooper.
Their unit deployed as part of a larger Marine force currently
repositioning to Southwest Asia for possible future contingency operations in
support of the global war on terrorism. The 4th FSSG is an integral member of
a Marine Air-Ground Task Force, providing focused logistical support both at
home base and to deployed units throughout the world. They provide combat
service support in six main functional areas: supply, maintenance,
transportation, medical and dental care, and engineer support.
Starvatow, son of Michaeline and James Starvatow of Berwick, is a 1996
graduate of Berwick Area High School. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve in
December 1998.
Tommaselli, son of Rita A. and Arthur J. Tommaselli of Swoyersville, is a
1998 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Plymouth. He joined the
Marine Corps Reserve in January 2002.
Steinruck, son of Arlene M. and Ray T. Steinruck of Luzerne, is a 1986
graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Plymouth. He joined the Marine
Corps Reserve in December 1985.
Hooper, son of Theresa M. Hooper of Exeter, is a 1999 graduate of Wyoming
Area High School, Exeter. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve in May 2000.
