WILKES-BARRE – A firefighter and a city code-enforcement officer landed
promotions Thursday as Wilkes-Barre increased its full-time inspection staff
from one to three.
Fire Capt. William Sharksnas, who has been doing all fire inspections, will
be promoted to assistant chief and two fire captains – William Ulichney and
Alan Klapat – will be assigned to work under him.
Sharksnas will make $47,783 annually, an increase of $5,693 from his 2002
salary. With overtime, Sharksnas made $53,082 in 2002.
Ulichney will make $43,851 annually, an increase of $6,111 from his 2002
salary. With overtime, Ulichney made $49,584 in 2002.
Klapat will make $43,851 annually, an increase of $2,930 from his 2002
salary. With overtime, Klapat made $50,142 in 2002.
Also, code-enforcement officer William Harvey was promoted to deputy chief
code-enforcement officer. His new annual salary is $38,500, an increase of
$6,000 from his 2002.
The men are supposed to conduct home and rental inspections during the day
and business inspections at night. They are expected to visit every business
once a month.
