Joseph E. Bartley Sr. of South Hancock Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at
Jeanes Hospital, Philadelphia.
Born Nov. 29, 1931, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Daniel and
Gertrude (Helfrich) Bartley. He graduated from St. Nicholas High School,
Wilkes-Barre. He served in the U.S. Army, with a duty in Germany. He worked
for Bell Telephone Co., Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church,
Wilkes-Barre; Bell Telephone Pioneers; and St. Conrad’s Young Men Society.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Ducey; and grandson,
Benjamin Bartley.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Jean Gregory; sons, Joseph
E. Jr., Bear Creek Township; Gregory C., Mountain Top; daughters, Kathleen B.
Peregrim, Bear Creek Township; Sandra B. Kuna, Mountain Top; six
grandchildren; brother, Daniel L., Bear Creek Township; and sister, Gertrude
E., Hanover Township.
Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday from the Lisman Funeral
Home Inc., 233 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30
a.m. in St. Nicholas Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover
Township.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
