JUST TO CHANGE the subject from high school sports, which are getting
sickening already, have you people noticed the move that Bill Parcells is
doing in Dallas? Little by little by little. Go ‘Boys. God help you Eagles.
INSTEAD OF COVERING the Pittsburgh Penguins or the Philadelphia Flyers, why
not cover the Washington Capitals, the team that probably will win the Stanley
Cup this year?
LET’S GO ‘CATS, let’s go ‘Cats, let’s go ‘Cats.
Editor’s note: Villanova, Arizona or Kentucky? Or the Broadway musical?
MY WIFE AND I are viewing the college basketball playoff games, and with
all the basket interference and double dribbles and charging and all the other
rule violations, my wife made a comment that it’s more like a hockey game than
basketball.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE Bishop O’Reilly boys basketball coach and to the
boys basketball team on a heckuva season. What a ride, guys. You did such a
super job. Of course, just like last year, coach Belenski deserves Coach of
the Year.
I AM THOROUGHLY disgusted with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
organization. To put Jason MacDonald on the reserve list is a travesty. He is
such a hard-working Penguin. I was hoping they’d trade Orpik or Lupaschuk. How
many turnovers and errors do you have to make before someone sees, or are they
like our high schools, someone’s friend. Good grief.
LET ME BE the first to say it. You know what has to happen if the Phillies,
with all that talent they have, don’t do something real good this year. Bowa’s
got to go-wa.
WILKES-BARRE, I’M calling from Wyoming County. Between what you came up
here last year and shot off in deer season and the deer we’ve had starve,
which is many, you may as well save your time and not come up here to hunt.
I’M SURE THE game commission, after this long, severe, cold and snowy
winter, will tell us that one or two deer died from starvation in the whole
state and issue another million doe licenses for this hunting season.
I’M SITTING HERE enjoying the Louisville-UAB game on Channel 74 on Service
Electric, when 1 p.m. rolls around, which is exactly midway through the second
half, the games goes off on Channel 74. And thanks to the St. Patrick’s Day
parade on regular CBS channel 2, we don’t see the conclusion of a great
conference final. What’s the matter with Service Electric?
I’M CALLING IN response to the article that said any two coaches at the Ice
Box can coach the Baby Pens. Anybody that calls in a ridiculous statement like
that must have had one too many tomatoes.
LET THE TRUTH be told. The Wyoming Valley Conference is blessed with some
terrific female coaches. Karen Klassner, Elvetta Gemski, also on that list is
Mara Pawlenok from Hoban. Year in, year out, she takes her talent, knows how
to use it and turns it into a winning formula. Coach Pawlenok is a taskmaster
of the first order. However, all of the great coaches in athletics are such
and they get the most out of the players.
WAS THAT THE North Pocono girls basketball coach or was it Jerry Lewis
playing the role of the crazy coach. Anyway, he made one critical mistake
trying to play Meredith Alexis one-on-one rather than double-teaming her.
I’M JUST CALLING to comment on Fox’s coverage of NASCAR racing this
weekend. I’d like to say they’re doing a fine job. All I get to see is 30
seconds of the race and 30 seconds of static. You call them and what do you
get? A busy tone. Thanks again.
JUST RETURNED FROM the Penguins game. While they did not play well in a 5-0
loss, I’m particularly disturbed at the play of Brooks Orpik and his continual
turning the puck over in his own zone. He’s been here two full years, a No. 1
draft pick and he doesn’t play like one. It’s very disturbing to see him make
the same mistakes game after game after game.
I THINK THE only time things are going to change with our local Penguins is
when we get rid of the coach. The coach has to go. As a matter of fact, if
someone has to go down to Wheeling, send him down to Wheeling. Another thing
I’m glad about is as a season ticket holder I didn’t buy any tickets to the
playoffs. This way I won’t be disappointed.
THREE GOALS BEING scored by one player is known as a hat trick. Three
players from your former team scoring points to sweep you in a weekend series
is known as a Pat-trick.
