Richard W. Yalch, 54, of West Main Avenue, Wanamie section of Newport
Township, died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
   
Born on April 2, 1948, in Glen Lyon, he was the son of the late Michael and
Stasia (Antonaitis) Yalch. He was a graduate of Newport High School and Kings
College. He had been a musician with local polka bands, including Happy Tony
and the Coal Diggers. He was a district manager for Erie Insurance Co. for
eight years before founding the Richard W. Yalch Insurance Co. Inc., Mountain
Top. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Larksville, and Council
302 Knights of Columbus and the Bishop William J. Hafey 4th Degree Assembly.
He was also a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, the
CPCU, the CIC, the AIS, the LUTCFC, the PIA and the National Association of
Insurance and Financial Advisors.
    He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael, in 1983.
   
Surviving are his wife, the former Nancy Jean Cardillo; a nephew, Michael
Yalch of Sheatown, Newport Township; and a niece, Sharon Cease of Hanover
Township; great-nephew, Michael and great-niece, Cassandra, both of Sheatown,
Newport Township.
   
Funeral services will be at 10:15 a.m. Thursday from the Stanley S. Stegura
Funeral Home Inc., 614 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke. The Rev. Gerald J. Gurka,
pastor of St. John the Baptist Church, will celebrate a Mass of Christian
Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Larksville. Interment will
be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wanamie, Newport Township.
   
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Wednesday.
   
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to
the Newport Township Little League in care of Joseph Hillan Jr., 53 Railroad
St., Glen Lyon, PA 18617.
