Sister Mary Alonza Bell

Sister Mary Alonza Bell, a member of the Dallas Regional Community of the
Sisters of Mercy of the Americas died Saturday at the Mercy Center Nursing
Unit.
The former Rita Bell, born Feb. 15, 1914, in Tuscarora, she was a daughter
of the late Joseph F. and Anna (Kennedy) Bell. She graduated from Delano
Public High School and entered the Sisters of Mercy in Baltimore in 1934 and
professed her vows in 1937. She graduated from College Misericordia and
continued her education at Duquesne University. She taught in the dioceses of
Harrisburg, Altoona-Johnstown, Pittsburgh, Scranton and Brooklyn. She also
ministered as at Outreach Worker for Project REMAIN and served in the prayer
ministry at Mercy Center.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Michael, Francis,
George, Thomas, Alexander; sisters, Julia Cannon, Mary Pinkney, Anna Gotto,
Josephine Bell and Margaret McKernan.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Transferal to Mercy Center will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday with a wake service at
7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Blessed
Sacrament Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton,
Kingston Township.
Memorial donations may be made to the Retirement Fund, Sisters of Mercy,
P.O. Box 369, Dallas, PA.
