Now that war with Iraq is upon us, we have more of a duty than ever to help
the innocent civilians who will suffer death, injury, homelessness and
increased hunger and disease as a result. Even in the best of times, 24,000
people worldwide die of hunger each day.

The death toll will now leap in Iraq, a poor country where many children
die for the lack of food, clean water and medical care. Relief agencies have
been warning for months that they just don’t have enough money to deal with
the horrors of war. Since we, as Americans, are bringing bombs to Iraq, we
have a moral responsibility to bring food and other help. President Bush has
promised to do his best to aid civilians.
We should help him by donating to relief efforts such as the World Food
Program and the International Red Cross. Tax-deductible donations to the World
Food Program can be made online at www.wfp.org or by mail at U.S. Friends of
the World Food Program, PO Box 11856, Washington, DC 20008.

Tax-deductible donations to the International Federation of the Red Cross
can be made online at www.ifrc.org. There are many other fine relief agencies.
