WILKES-BARRE – The Peace Center will not stand idle in the face of war,
co-administrator David Frey said Monday. Members of the Peace Center met
Monday night to discuss their plans shortly before President Bush addressed
the nation about war in Iraq.
One of their plans is to hold a 5 p.m. vigil on Public Square the first
evening after war breaks out.
“I think he believes the risks of going to war are less than the risks of
not going to war,” Frey said after Bush’s speech. “I find myself tonight
hoping he’s right, though in my heart I think he’s wrong.”
Frey said he’s given up hope that protests will stop a war, though he
thinks Bush’s pledges to minimize casualties are a result of protests. “All
of us now hope as few lives are lost as possible, both American and Iraqi.”
