CHARITY GOLF

Make-A-Wish tourney nears
The 11th annual Lou Michaels Make-A-Wish Celebrity Golf Tournament will tee
off June 6 at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Course in Dorrance Township.

Proceeds from the event go to Make-A-Wish of Northeastern Pa. The
non-profit organization helps fulfill wishes of children with life-threatening
illnesses. Michaels, a Swoyersville native and former Baltimore Colts star,
and his brother, Walt, an ex-Cleveland Browns star and former head coach of
the New York Jets, have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the charity
during the years. The annual tournament is the local MAW chapter’s biggest
fundraiser for the year.

Format is captain-and-crew with a noon shotgun start. Cost is $125 per
golfer, which includes lunch, beverages and dinner after the tournament. A
raffle featuring autographed sports memorabilia will also be held after the
tournament.

Corporate ($500) and hole ($125) sponsorships are available. Because of the
popularity of the event, only the first 130 paid entries will be permitted to
play.

Checks should be made payable to: Lou Michaels/Make-A-Wish, 69 Grace St.,
Swoyersville, PA 18704.

COLLEGES

Lacrosse game site shifted

The College Misericordia men’s lacrosse team will play the program’s first
home game at 3:30 p.m. today against Susquehanna.

The contest was originally scheduled to be played in Selinsgrove, but
Susquehanna’s field was in poor condition. So the Cougars will play on the
synthetic grass of Mangelsdorf Field, Scranton. Misericordia (1-2) played its
first two seasons on the road and moved its first two home games of this
season to the University of Scranton as snow melted on Mangelsdorf Field.
