Joseph P. Gaydos, 86, of Swoyersville, died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital.
Born March 17, 1917, in Kingston, he was a son of the late Joseph and
Elizabeth (Horvath) Gaydos. He attended Swoyersville schools and was a U.S.
Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant with the Army
Rangers. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the American Theater Service,
European African Middle East Service and Good Conduct medals and the Combat
Infantry badge. He was employed by Sordoni Construction Co. and as a tree
trimmer and foreman by Asplundh Line and Tree Co. He was a member of Holy
Name-St. Mary’s Church, Swoyersville and the Harveys Lake Rod and Gun Club.
He was preceded in death by brothers, John and George; sisters, Mary
Evancik and Margaret Caruso.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Rachel Theresa Buzitsky;
son, Joseph B., Exeter; two grandchildren; brothers, Stephen, Swoyersville;
Michael, Pittston; sisters, Helen Gulla, Wilkes-Barre; Dorothy Szwast,
Swoyersville; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Joseph L. Wroblewski
Funeral Home, 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial
at 10 a.m. at Holy Name-St. Mary’s Church, Swoyersville. Interment will be in
St. Mary’s Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer
Society, American Heart Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
