Man pleads guilty
to shooting friend
Nicholas Chipolet, 51, of Bloomsburg, pleaded guilty Thursday to
involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment in the shooting of his
friend.
Police said Chipolet in October was handling a pistol when the gun
accidentally went off, striking 47-year-old Nicholas Polascik in the head,
killing him.
Police said Chipolet had just finished firing about seven or eight shots
from inside his home toward his back yard. He was handling a .22-caliber
weapon when it discharged. Polascik, of Cleveland Street, Hazleton, was
pronounced dead at the scene.
Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas Senior Judge Gifford Cappellini is
scheduled to sentence Chipolet at 9:30 a.m. April 3.

Man enters ARD
in hunting incident
Daniel Dennis Zaludek, 72, of Mechanicsburg, entered the county’s
Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program on Tuesday for a
hunting-related shooting.
Zaludek was charged with shooting or causing injury to human beings after
he shot Lloyd Naugle on May 8 in Conyngham Township. Police said Zaludek
mistook Naugle as a turkey.
Naugle suffered a shotgun wound to his face, neck and chest. Police said
Zaludek rendered immediate aid to Naugle.
The ARD program is offered to first-time offenders of minor crimes. Zaludek
must be enrolled in the program for one year, pay costs and fees, participate
in community service, refrain from using drugs and alcohol and pay
restitution.
