Frank Sgarlat

    Frank A. Sgarlat, 88, of Dallas, died Wednesday at the Meadows Nursing
Center, Dallas.
   
Born Oct. 23, 1914, in Luzerne, he was a son of the late Joseph C. and Rosa
(Abbott) Sgarlat. He was a graduate of Luzerne High School and Penn State
University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a
master sergeant in Europe. He was chairman of the board and president of
Airport Sand and Gravel Co. Inc.. He served on the board of directors of the
Denison Cemetery Association. He was a member of 395 Free and Accepted Masons;
the Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg; Irem Temple Country Club; the Penn State
Alumni Association and Alpha Phi Delta; the Wilkes-Barre Lions Club; and the
Trinity Presbyterian Church.
   
He was preceded in death by brother, Samuel O.; sister, Kathryn Giunta.
   
Surviving are wife, the former Anita Reynolds; son, Frank, Dallas;
daughters, Evelyn Smith, West Pittston; Suzanne Hood, Dallas; Maryanne
Baumgartner, Boston; four granddaughters; sister, Helen Zupa, Wilkes-Barre;
and nieces and nephews.
   
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Recupero Funeral Home,
406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with the Revs. Andrew Pillarella and Mark
Harper officiating. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Cemetery, Dallas.
   
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday.
   
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kunkle Ambulance
Association or the volunteer fire department.
