An employee at Keystone Automotive Warehouse, Mark Regis, faces five charges
WEST PITTSTON – An employee at Keystone Automotive Warehouse in Exeter was charged on Friday with stealing confidential information from the company, according to arrest records.
Mark Regis, 47, of Johnson Street, West Wyoming, was charged by Exeter police with theft of trade secrets, unlawful possession of trade secrets, convert trade secrets, unlawful use of a computer and unlawful duplication. He was arraigned by District Judge Joseph Carmody in West Pittston and released without bail.
Regis could not be reached for comment on Monday.
According to the criminal complaint:
Keystone officials reported to police on July 15 that Regis, an employee for more than 20 years, e-mailed confidential information to a third party. The information Regis e-mailed, police alleged, were sales, customer names and vendors.
Keystone has a policy that prohibits employees from sharing confidential information with unauthorized third parities. Regis signed a code of conduct policy in October 2007 acknowledging the company’s practices, the criminal complaint says.
Police said Regis also signed Keystone’s non-solicitation and non-competition agreement in November 2003.
Keystone officials told police on July 28 that Regis had contacted the company’s human resources department asking questions about his non-competition agreement, and wanting to know if the agreement is in effect if he voluntarily left the company, the criminal complaint says.
Police said Keystone officials learned that Regis had downloaded company confidential information onto a portable computer drive in July. The drive, the criminal complaint says, contained customers, sales, venders and discounts.
It could not be determined late Monday afternoon if Regis is still employed at Keystone Automotive.
Keystone is a distributor and marketer of specialty automotive equipment and accessories throughout North America.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled on Aug. 26.
