Eugene (Jessie) J. Kuligowski, 86, of Garfield Street, Nanticoke, passed away Sunday morning August 2, at Birchwood Nursing Home, Nanticoke.
He was born in Nanticoke, on July 17, 1923, and was a son of the late Frank and Helen Krzyanski Kuligowski. He was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, Class of 1943, and a member of Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke.
He proudly served with the U.S. Army during World War II and volunteered with the 10th Mountain Division in Northern Italy and was awarded the Bronze Medal and a Purple Heart for his Courage and Valor. He also served as Sergeant-at-Arms with the American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke. After returning from the war, he was employed by Calco Chemical Co., Boundbrook, N.J.; A & P Grocery Store, Nanticoke, and by the Parks Department of Nanticoke.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, the former Bertha Novak, in 2004; brothers Anthony and Stanley; and sister Victoria.
Presently surviving are a son, Carl, Honey Pot section of Nanticoke; daughter Andrea and husband, Joseph Basile, Collings Lakes, N.J.; grandchildren Deidre and husband Joseph Drawdy; Peter A. Basile; great-grandchild Jocelyn Drawdy; brothers Sylvester Kuligowski and Ben Kellogg; sister Adeline Espisito
American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke, will conduct a military funeral Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke, with Rev. James Nash officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Nanticoke. Calling hours will be held today, from 6 to 8 p.m.
