Joseph A. “Joe Lenn” Laneski, 87, of Dickson City, and formerly of Throop, died Sunday afternoon while playing golf at Emanon Country Club in Falls, and doing what he loved to do with great friends.
His wife of 45 years, the former Eleanor Dunly, died in 1993.
Born in Throop, a son of the late Anthony and Veronica Woytak Laneski, he was educated in Throop High School. He was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church in Dickson City and its Holy Name Society. He was employed for more than 25 years as a driver for Roadway Express Inc. and was the recipient of the “1 million accident free miles” award prior to his retirement in 1987. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations, and was a proud member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Flagstaff, Ariz.
He was a past member of Throop Hose Co. 2, a member of the American Legion Post 665 in Dickson City; a member of the VFW Post 7251 in Throop; a life member of the Polish Citizens Progressive Club and was a Philadelphia Phillies fan. An avid golfer and a member of Emanon Country Club, he was a past winner of club championships at Emanon Country Club, Panorama Golf Club and Throop Boulevard Golf Association.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony Laneski and Edward Laniewski; and two sisters, Stella Kostik and Arlene Grabowski.
He is survived by three sons, Joseph A. Laneski Jr. and wife Sharon, of Lebanon, Pa.; Robert Laneski, of Dickson City; and Richard Laneski and wife Bonny, of Wyoming; two sisters, Florence Laneski and Felicia Sergeant, both of Throop; five grandchildren, Nora Knott, Sara Crandall, Jessica Mowery, Elyse Laneski and Leah Laneski; and seven great-grandchildren, Jonathon Knott, Julie Knott, Alyson Mowery, Daniel Joseph Mowery, Megan Mowery, Andrew Crandall and Kassandra Crandall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, 402 Boulevard Ave., Dickson City, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dundaff Street, Dickson City, to be celebrated by his nephew Monsignor Walter Rossi. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Dickson City. Friends may call Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Dickson City Veterans Organization. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
