PLAYOFF PIONEERS
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will host the Kentucky Horsemen in the af2’s American Conference semifinals Saturday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. at Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre Twp. The Pioneers, coming off the largest-margin playoff victory in league history, lost to the Headhunters during the regular season. If they win, the Pioneers will advance to the American Conference Championship game.

Jared Lorenzen, a former star at University of Kentucky and backup quarterback on the New York Giants Super Bowl championship team, plays for the Horsemen.

LIGHT IN AUGUST

The North Light Loft (214 Sixth St., Honesdale), will host “Artography: New Media Works by Charles Gregory Woods” Friday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 10 p.m.
The mixed-media show will feature Woods’ work in photography, drawing, painting, collage and digital manipulation.
Woods is one of the Weekender’s Artistic License art columnists and critics.

NEW TRADITIONS

McGee and Youngblood’s New Traditions, featuring multi-instrumentalist Tommy Youngblood and guitarist/vocalist Brian McGee, will perform Friday, Aug. 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bakehouse (United Penn Plaza,152 S. Wyoming Ave., Kingston). The band plays everything from blues and reggae to Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead.
The show is free and open to all ages.

Christy Mathewson Days, a weekend of festivities celebrating Factoryville native Christy Mathewson, one of the five original inductees into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, will be held Friday Aug. 7 and Saturday Aug. 8 at Keystone College in La Plume, PNC Field in Moosic and Christy Mathewson Park in Factoryville.
