The F.M. Kirby Center (Public Square, Wilkes-Barre) has announced four new shows: Johnny Mathis (Nov. 8), Lily Tomlin (Nov. 22), Bryan Adams (Dec. 9) and Michael McDonald (Dec. 18). Adams’ show is billed as “A Very Special Acoustic Christmas,” while McDonald’s is being promoted as “This Christmas & Greatest Hits.”

Tickets for all four shows go on sale to the public Sept. 14 at kirbycenter.org, Ticketmaster.com and the Kirby Center box office. A Kirby Center member pre sale will run from Sept. 9-13 via phone, at 570.826.1100, or at the box office.

THE SHAPES OF THINGS
The Greater Scranton Interdependence Committee announced that the Hexagon Project Exhibit will open on Friday, Sept. 4 at Melberger Art Center at Diversified Information Technology (123 Wyoming Ave, Scranton) starting at 5 p.m. The exhibit will be on display all month. This will be the third year for the Hexagon Project according to Beth Burkhauer, co-chairperson. This year’s exhibit will have more than 300 hexagons from schools worldwide. Invitations have been sent to schools nationwide and Australia, Canada, Nepal and other counties.
New to the exhibit will be a display of rug samples by designer Diane Paparo, of New York and Pennsylvania, as well as a digital presentation of “Faces of Freedom Photography,” an exhibit on child labor and the South Asian rug industry by documentary photographer U. Roberto Romano.

On Friday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. at the Mellow Theater (501 Vine St., Scranton), the Armed Forces Committee of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Community Concerts at Lackawanna College will present the United States Navy Band’s Country Current free concert. Seating for the performance is general admission, and doors will open at 7:30 p.m. This event is presented as a celebration of Interdependence Day, in addition to other free Interdependence Day events held throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania in the month of September.
The United States Navy Band’s Country Current country-bluegrass group is the Navy’s premier country music ensemble. Country Current performed at the Branson Cares–Help Start the Healing tribute to the citizens of Oklahoma City and at the Glen Campbell Goodtime Theatre in Branson, Mo., on Memorial Day in 1995. Other credits include the Grand Ole Opry, Wheeling Jamboree and the Academy of Country Music Awards show.
