Harold Grochowski, 87, of Westminster, Md., and formerly of West Enterprise Street, Glen Lyon, passed away Saturday at his home in Westminster.
He was born in Bridgeport, Pa., on July 25, 1922, a son of the late Walter and Stacia (Gavronski) Grochowski.
He was employed as a coal miner for the Susquehanna Coal Company in Newport Township and was also employed as a welder for Penflex in Malvern, Pa. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed woodcarving and painting.
He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army from April 1945 to Nov. 1946.
He was preceded in death by sisters Myrtle Shutta and Tess Broski; brothers Walter Grochowski Jr. and Joseph Grochowski.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years of marriage, the former Veronica Kush, Westminster, Md.; a daughter, Diane Olenginski, and her husband, Lawrence, of Westminster, Md.; three grandchildren, Allison Olenginski, of Breckenridge, Colo.; Kristopher Olenginski, of Owings Mills, Md.; Kevin Olenginski, of Melbourne, Fla.; sister Teresa Fretz, Malvern, Pa.; brother Raymond Grochowski, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Corpus Christi Parish/St. Adalbert’s Church, Market Street, Glen Lyon.
Interment will be held in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Glen Lyon. Family and friends may call on Thursday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m.
