Pauline E. Varner, 95, of Meadows Apartments, Dallas, passed away Monday, August 31, 2009, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Mrs. Varner was born in Beach Haven, Salem Township, April 15, 1914, and was a daughter of the late Hiram and Lenna Tisch Varner.
She graduated in 1928 from Hanover High School, where she participated in basketball. She resided in Meeker prior to moving to the Meadows Apartments 6 years ago.
Before retiring, Pauline was employed as a seamstress for Woodbury Manufacturing, Wilkes-Barre, for 35 years.
She enjoyed “calling” farmer dances for various dance halls, loved following her nieces and nephews in softball and baseball.
She was preceded in death by brothers Ernest and Bruce; a sister, Helen Davis; and a grandson, Tracey Slocum.
She is survived by a son, Ernest “Bud” Slocum, and his wife, Charlotte, of Meeker; grandchildren Ernest R. Slocum and his wife, Lisa, of Meeker; Cindy M. Slocum, of Randalltown, Md.; Susan M. Triponey and her husband, Michael, of McElhattan; and great-granddaughter Cassidy Triponey.
Funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of Routes 29 & 118, Pikes Creek, with the Rev. James Shields, pastor of the Outlet Free Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Outlet Free Methodist Church, 531 Lehman Outlet Road, Dallas, PA 18612.
