The United Hebrew Institute marked its 50th year in its building in Kingston at the annual picnic that was held on the school grounds. Geveret Sophie Pernikoff was awarded the Martin D. and Janet Popky Award for years of service to the picnic. The presentation of a plaque was made by Harris Cutler, Kevin Greenberg and Alan Weinberg, co-chairs of the event for several years, and Taly Kornfeld, president of the PTA. Food was served by volunteers and numerous activities were held for the children, including face painting, a moon bounce, a dinosaur dig and a dunk tank. The Wyoming Valley West Band played several musical selections and the Kingston Fire Department sent a ladder truck for the children to explore. A petting zoo was provided by the 4-H Club and dogs being trained to assist the blind also visited. The PTA conducted a used book sale and sold articles of clothing with the UHI logo. The final event was a fireworks display by Marc Kleyman, a UHI graduate. From left: Franceen Pernikoff, Geveret Sophie Pernikoff, Naomi Pernikoff, Daniella Pernikoff.
