Capsule reviews of continuing films:
(500) DAYS OF SUMMER — Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel star in this engagingly breezy tale of a guy with a broken heart and the girl who broke it. Too cute at times but easy to live with. 95 minutes. PG-13 for adult themes.
DISTRICT 9 — This is one intense, intelligent, well-crafted action movie. It has the aesthetic trappings of science fiction, but it’s really more of a character drama, an examination of how a man responds when he’s forced to confront his identity. And it involves aliens. R for bloody violence and pervasive language. 113 minutes.

FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP — Death enters the third dimension in the fourth installment of the horror series, and the first in 3D. R for strong violent/gruesome accidents, language and a scene of sexuality. 84 minutes.
G-FORCE — For parents despairing of ever tearing “Cats and Dogs” and “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” out of the family DVD player, Disney gives us this comedy about talking pet-shop dropouts trained as government agents. PG for mild action and rude humor. 89 minutes.
GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA — The latest ’80s toy line to make the jump to the big screen follows the exploits of a secret team of super-soldiers who take on a titular group of high-tech terrorists known collectively as Cobra. PG-13 for strong action violence and mayhem. 118 minutes.
THE GOODS: LIVE HARD, SELL HARD — Enduring the soul-sucking process of buying a used car is bad enough. Watching a movie about soulless used-car salesmen is even worse. R for sexual content, nudity, pervasive language and some drug material. 90 minutes.
HALLOWEEN II — Here’s the pretentious, unsuspenseful sequel from Rob Zombie, which continues the adventures of serial killer Michael Myers. R for strong brutal bloody violence, terror, graphic images, language, crude sexual content and nudity. 99 minutes.
THE HANGOVER — Who hasn’t woken up in a trashed Las Vegas hotel suite with a missing tooth, a tiger in the bathroom, a baby in the closet and little or no memory of what happened? R for language, sexual content/nudity and some drug material. 99 minutes.

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE — The sixth movie in J.K. Rowling’s fantasy series about the young wizard is the franchise’s best so far. PG for scary images, violence, language and mild sensuality. 153 minutes.
1/2
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS — Quentin Tarantino’s tonally schizoid Jewish revenge fantasy rewrites World War II history to give Brad Pitt and company a chance to do a lot of jive riffing. 152 minutes. R for violence, gore, profanity, adult themes.
JULIE & JULIA — Nora Ephron has woven the real stories of two women separated by decades and a body of water but connected by a love of food and a quest for identity. PG-13 for brief strong language and some sensuality. 123 minutes.
PONYO — If you’re 5 years old this movie is probably awesome. For everyone else, though, “Ponyo” will seem beautiful but surprisingly boring. G. 100 minutes.
SHORTS – This family adventure film is essentially about a group of kids who end up with a “wishing rock,” a rainbow-colored stone that grants the holder any wish. PG for mild action and some rude humor. 89 minutes.

TAKING WOODSTOCK — Here, Ang Lee approaches the fabled concert from an outsider’s angle. R for graphic nudity, sexual content, drug use and language. 120 minutes.
THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE — Eric Bana’s Henry can travel through time but can’t control where or when he goes. PG-13 for theme, brief disturbing images, nudity and sexuality. 107 minutes.
THE UGLY TRUTH — Career woman meets caveman in this unfunny comedy starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. R for profanity, sexual candor, sexual situations.
