June 19, 1943

Sergeant First Class James Morgan went missing in action on June 19, 1943, in The Battle of the Pacific, when his merchant ship, the USS Knox, was sunk by a torpedo in the Indian Ocean.
James was born on November 10, 1923, a son of the late John and Abbie Morgan.
His body went missing in action at 19 years of age and his body was never recovered.
His parents, as well as his sisters Dorothy Morgan Jesso, Lois Morgan Owens; brothers Stew Morgan and John Morgan, passed after his death.
He is survived by his sister Sarah Strauser of Kingston; brothers Robert Morgan of Shavertown and Edward Morgan of Newton, Iowa; as well as nieces and nephews.

A memorial services for James will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Shawnee Cemetery in Plymouth. A headstone will be placed next to his parents, in honor and remembrance. The U.S. Navy is sending two honor guards and the Sons of the American Legion, Plymouth, to give a gun salute. The Rev. David Wildoner Sr., of the Franklin Street PM Church, will officiate. Services are open to the public.
