Mrs. Jean F. Abent, 84, of Duryea, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 2, 2009, at Mercy Hospital, Scranton.
Born in Duryea, she was a daughter of the late Julian and Mary Budzilek Gromelski. She attended Holy Rosary School, Duryea. She was formerly employed by the area garment industry.
She was a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Duryea.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, who passed away on January 4, 1988; great-grandson Raymond Dziewit; two brothers, Edmund and Edward Gromelski; and three sisters, Mildred (Seamacca) Mattus, Stella Brennan and Theresa Mattus.
Surviving are her son, Frank J. Abent, and his wife, Debra, of Duryea; daughters Phyllis Nawrocki and her husband, Leonard, of Duryea; and Rose Marie Dziewit, of Pittston; grandchildren Frank Abent Jr., Melissa Galanakis, Kimberly Patton, Kristen Nawrocki and Raymond Dziewit Jr.; great-grandchildren Yanni and Aris Galanakis; as well as nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call Sunday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
