WYOMING – Borough police are investigating a purse-snatching incident that occurred in the parking lot of Gerrity’s Supermarket around 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
The victim, whose name was not released, reported that a woman in her 20s and approximately 5 feet, 4 inches tall entered her vehicle and removed her purse as she was loading groceries into her vehicle, police said. No one was injured.
Police said the suspect fled in a maroon Pontiac Grand Prix operated by a man. A further description of the driver was not provided.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Wyoming police at 693-2650.
PLYMOUTH – Borough police charged two brothers for their alleged involvement with a burglary last week at Olde Tymers Pub.
Police allege Michael Brandon, 44, of Edwardsville, conspired with his brother, Martin Brandon, 44, of Plymouth, to break into the bar at 177 E. Main St. and steal $1,337 after closing hours on Friday.
Neil McMahon, manager of Olde Tymers, provided a surveillance tape that showed the brothers burglarizing the bar and stealing the money, the criminal complaint states.
The Brandons were arraigned Thursday morning on counts of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and criminal conspiracy charges. Michael Brandon also was charged with trespassing onto McMahon’s home above the bar on the night of the burglary.
Michael and Martin Brandon were placed in the county prison for lack of $10,000 and $20,000 straight bail, respectively.
Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for Sept. 8.
WEST HAZLETON – State police at Hazleton arrested a couple who allegedly assaulted each other during a dispute over money at their home early Thursday morning.
Amanda R. Jenigen, 21, and her boyfriend, Gregory J. Zucatti, 21, both of 512 N. Broad St., were arraigned and charged with simple assault and harassment. They were released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Police responded to the couple’s West Hazleton home for a report of a fight between two people around 1:12 a.m., according to arrest papers.
Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for Sept. 9.
WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:
A car stereo face plate was stolen from Linford Lounds’ vehicle while it was parked at 116 Sambourne St. on Wednesday.
Charges were filed against Ryan McDonald, 22, of Nanticoke, for allegedly violating a no-contact protection from abuse order by driving by 19-year-old Shannon McDonald’s home on Academy Street and having a friend deliver a letter to her Wednesday.
Fishing equipment and a gold Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a missing seat was stolen from Jack Covert’s business at 86 S. Main St. on Wednesday.
Virginia Craig’s basement window was broken at 735 N. Washington St. on Wednesday.
Someone entered David Tlatehchi’s residence at 15 W. Hollenback St. and stole an Xbox game system around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers responded to a report of two men fighting in the area of 101 Sambourne St. around 4 p.m. Wednesday. Police allege Damon Moore, 31, of Wilkes-Barre, was agitated and would not cooperate with officers. He was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Anthony Hinson, 48, of Scott Street, was arrested for alleged public drunkenness after he was found in the area of Union and State streets at 5:23 p.m. Wednesday.
BEAR CREEK TWP. – State police at Wyoming are investigating residential burglary on Meadow Run Road, approximately one-tenth of a mile east of Route 115, sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said someone forced their way into the house through a door in the lower-level sun room and removed a lap top computer, televisions, assorted jewelry and cash.
Anyone having information or who may have seen anything in the area is asked to contact state police Trooper Kevin J. Seidel, of the Wyoming barracks, at 697-2000.
HARVEYS LAKE – Borough police charged a Dallas man with assaulting two women outside of Sportsman’s Bar early morning Thursday.
Michael C. Musial, 32, of 21 Hoover Road, was arraigned and charged with harassment, terroristic threats and simple assault, court records show. Musial was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Police allege Musial threw Julie Loen to the ground, hit her in her head several times and then smashed her head off a set of stairs in the bar’s parking lot just before 2 a.m.
Witnesses told police they saw Musial attack Loen and an older woman inside a vehicle.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 10.
HANOVER TWP. – Township police reported the following:
Dawn Chwastyk, of Wilkes-Barre, reported someone stole a dual CD player from her vehicle while it was parked in the Red Cross parking lot sometime between 9:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
• Carl Andrews, of McGovern Hill, reported someone used his credit card to make two unauthorized purchases on Tuesday.
PLAINS TWP. – A Butler Township man is facing charges for exposing himself and performing a lewd act while sitting next to a woman in the Mohegun Sun at Pocono Downs casino Wednesday night, state police at Wyoming said.
Police said 62-year-old James Ozark, of Drums, sat next to a woman playing a slot machine at about 11:50 p.m. The woman claimed Ozark was staring at her, exposed himself and performed a lewd act.
Ozark was detained by casino security until police arrived. He will be charged with open lewdness, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness, police said.
FAIRMOUNT TWP. – A Benton man is facing forgery charges filed by state police at Shickshinny for allegedly cashing checks from a former employer.
Police allege Daniel Walter Bartkiewicz, 23, stole two checks from an office at Bonham Log and Lumber, Tripp Road, in early July. Bartkiewicz used a signature stamp to endorse the checks that he cashed at a service station in Benton, police said.
Police filed three counts of forgery against Bartkiewicz with District Judge John Hasay in Shickshinny on Wednesday. A preliminary hearing will be scheduled at a later date.
