EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Michael Vick scored on a 2-yard run, but was sacked four times, lost a fumble and threw an interception in the New York Jets’ 38-27 victory Thursday night.
He finished 7 for 11 for 26 yards, and ran for 35 yards on seven carries.
Jets rookie Mark Sanchez completed all five of his passes and capped his only series with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jerricho Cotchery.
Steelers 21, Panthers 10
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Steelers first-team offense and defense took three snaps apiece, with the defense finishing the preseason without allowing a touchdown despite NFL defensive player of the year James Harrison not even suiting up in Pittsburgh’s win over Carolina.
Lions 17, Bills 6
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Lions rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford closed the preseason much like he opened it: by showing plenty of promise but little finish.
The same goes for the Buffalo Bills offense, which could certainly use a healthy Terrell Owens to help it find the end zone following a loss to Detroit in each team’s preseason finale.
Patriots 38, Giants 27
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Eli Manning and David Carr passed the Giants to a 21-point first-quarter lead. Rookie quarterback Brian Hoyer brought the Patriots back for a exhibition win.
Ravens 20, Falcons 3
ATLANTA — John Beck threw for 232 yards with a pair of touchdown passes as the Ravens closed out the preseason with a victory.
Bengals 38, Colts 7
CINCINNATI — Jim Sorgi gave a reassuring performance, throwing for a touchdown before the reserves took over, the game degenerated and the Bengals rolled to victory.
Jaguars 24, Redskins 17
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — David Garrard led the Jaguars to a touchdown and two field goals in four possessions, receiver Mike Sims-Walker looked sharp in his first action in nearly a month and Jacksonville took advantage of two early turnovers to beat the Redskins.
Titans 27, Packers 13
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vince Young ran for a touchdown and threw for another in his strongest performance this preseason, and Tennessee beat Green Bay.
Dolphins 10, Saints 7
NEW ORLEANS — Patrick Cobbs rush for 54 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown run, and Miami closed out a perfect preseason with a victory.
Bears 26, Browns 23
CHICAGO — Brett Ratliff started for the Browns and led a touchdown drive after a rough start against Chicago. Robbie Gould kicked two of his four field goals in the fourth quarter, though, leading the Bears past Cleveland.
Rams 17, Chiefs 9
ST. LOUIS — The Chiefs had four gains of 40 yards or more and totaled 406 yards, yet still lost to St. Louis to finish their fourth winless preseason this decade.
