Viola Hoover, 101, formerly of Lehman Township, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at the Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas, where she had been a guest for the past six years.
She was born in Meeker in 1908, and was a daughter of the late William and Rose Fiske Sarver. She grew up in the Broadway/Harveyville area and graduated from Huntington Mills High School in 1927. Viola was a member of the Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church and its WSCS and was a former member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
She was also a longtime member of the Meeker Methodist Church before it closed and served many years there as the secretary of the WSCS.
Her last place of employment before she retired was the former Natona Mills in Dallas. Before that she worked in a dress factory in Kearny, N.J., and before that as a domestic housekeeper for several families in the area.
Preceding her in death are her husband of 48 years, Arthur in 1977; a brother, Stanley; a sister, Asenith Wolfe; and a grandson, Kevin Hoover.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Gerald and Jule of Unionville, Gordon and Molly of Middlesex, N.J., and Dale and Jean of Atwater, Calif. She also has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. from Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of routes 29 & 118, Pikes Creek, with the Rev. Beverly Butler, pastor of the Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church, officiating. Private interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek, at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Hoover’s memory be made to Idetown-Lehman United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1, Lehman, Pa., 18627 or the charity of their choice.
