Mr. Dale Anderson, 76, of Shavertown, passed away Friday morning, September 4, 2009, at the Hospice of the VNA of the Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.
Born March 7, 1933, in Oakley, Kansas, he was a son of the late Carl and Beulah Anderson. He was a graduate of Kansas High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Medical Corps.
He was a graduate of Indiana University, where he earned a Ph.D. in folklore. He was the author of two books including “Folktales of the High Plains.”
He had attended Nebraska Christian College, where he became an ordained minister. He had served more than 23 churches in Pennsylvania and was the founding minister of The Christian Church in California, as well as the Montoursville Christian Church.
Prior to his retirement, he had been a professor of English composition at Bloomsburg University.
He was preceded in death by brothers Ralph, Gene and Kenneth Anderson.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Joan Daniels; nine children, Bryce Anderson, of Green Bay, Wis.; Bryan Anderson, of Ruckersville, Va.; Brent Anderson, of Philadelphia; Laura Bendler, of Waynesboro, Va.; Robert Anderson, of Crivitz, Wis.; Richard Anderson, of Kingston; Charles Anderson, of Kingston; Elizabeth Smith, of Dallas, and Celeste Anderson, of Shavertown; five grandchildren, Athena and Tescha Anderson, Tyler and Tara Bendler and Andrew Smith.

The
family will receive friends on Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
Private funeral services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. A public memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
