Irene Wandless, 87, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away early Wednesday morning at Guardian Elder Care Center, Nanticoke, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wandless, who passed away Dec. 29, 2002.
Born Jan. 12, 1922, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Kerestes Drevenak.
Irene was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School.
In her earlier years, Irene worked in local silk mills. Until her retirement in 1985, she was employed as a secretary for Seltex, formerly in Wilkes-Barre.
She was a member of the Second Welsh Congregational Church, Wilkes-Barre.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Lee Philistine, and her husband, Carl, Wilkes-Barre; two grandsons, Jason and Matthew Philistine; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service Corp., 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Pastor Kevin Stratka, pastor of the Second Welsh Congregational Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
