WILKES-BARRE – City police charged a Hanover Township man on evidence of drunken driving with an infant girl in his vehicle.
Kevin Francis Burke, 45, of Mark Drive, was charged with endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault, aggravated assault by a prisoner, simple assault, driving under the influence and two counts of disorderly conduct. He was released after posting $5,000 bail.
According to the criminal complaint:
A man notified police that he suspected a driver was intoxicated with an infant girl in the rear seat of a vehicle on Public Square on Sept. 22.
Police said they found Burke in the vehicle that was parked approximately three feet from the curb. A girl was found in a child safety seat inside the vehicle. Police allege Burke screamed at police that they were “making a big mistake.”
Burke displayed signs of intoxication and refused to submit to a blood alcohol test, police said. A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 6 in Wilkes-Barre Central Court.
WILKES-BARRE – City police reported the following:
A woman reported at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday that someone damaged a window of her South Welles Street residence.
Officers on patrol observed 52-year-old Christopher Evans, of Wilkes-Barre, allegedly shouting obscenities and behaving in a disorderly manner on Public Square around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Evans was cited with disorderly conduct.
Someone entered Sandra Hutz’s home on St. Clair Street and stole a 21-inch, flat-screen TV on Tuesday afternoon.
Kevin E. Perry, 35, of Poplar Street, was arrested after police alleged he was observed drinking a beer in public at 67 Public Square just before 4 p.m. Tuesday. As officers approached him, Perry hid the beer in his jacket. Police said he was found to be in possession of marijuana.
Richard Gliddon, 47, of South Franklin Street, was arrested under Megan’s Law for allegedly failing to notify state police of a change of address on Tuesday.
Someone broke into 18-year-old Kimberly Radjavitch’s 2004 Dodge and stole some change and damaged the steering column while the vehicle was parked in the area of North Pennsylvania Avenue on Tuesday.
• A woman attempted to leave Sheetz, Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard, without paying for a package of strawberries at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
• Candice Jayne, 43, of Westminister Street, Wilkes-Barre, and Ronald Kripp, 41, of Oxford Street, Hanover Township, will be charged with disorderly conduct after an incident on South Pennsylvania Avenue at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday.
A city man was arraigned by city police on Wednesday on charges he assaulted a woman.
Matthew Adam Gyle, 29, of Conyngham Avenue, was charged with simple assault and harassment. He was jailed at the county prison for lack of $5,000 bail.
Police allege Gyle assaulted the woman in the area of 121 Conyngham Ave. at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police said she had injuries to her face and back. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8 in Wilkes-Barre Central Court.
HAZLE TWP. – State police at Hazleton reported the following:
A cell phone belonging to Justina Rodriguez, of Hazleton, was stolen from the Hazleton Area High School on Friday.
Walmart security thwarted a retail theft, and two men described as in their 20s fled the store on foot around 7 p.m. Aug. 19, according to state police. .
