February 9, 2011

Maribeth “Betsy” Bauman, of Duryea, went home to her mother, Joan, in Heaven on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born October 20, 1947, she was a daughter of Sydney “Syd” Evans and the late Joan (Musewicz) Evans.

She is a graduate of West Scranton High School, most recently employed by Penguin Group, prior to her illness. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea (Formerly Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish), where she a member of the Christian Women’s Association.

Betsy loved many things in this world, but most importantly her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She had a passion and love for baseball, especially Mickey Mantle, whom she shared a birthday with. She coached and volunteered for the Duryea Little League for many years. Her goal was to teach players how to play, instill in them a virtue of good sportsmanship and, most importantly, to have fun.

In addition to her father, Betsy is survived by a sister, Judy Coleman, Duryea; son John, Pittston; daughter, Andrea, and her husband, Bryan, Richmond, Va.; son Sydney and his wife, Lora, Avoca; and a son, Jef, and his girlfriend, Amanda, at home. Also surviving, and affectionately known as “GB” to her grandchildren, are Devon, Cody, Tyler, Alex, Rebekah, Isabella, and, most recently, Jacob and Aaron, who were born on Sunday, February 6, 2011.

She will be deeply missed. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, Dave, Mark, Jess and “Stefania”; and loving friends, especially Bebe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 529 Stephenson St., Duryea, with Fr. Joseph Elston officiating. Friends may visit and celebrate her life from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mercy Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.
