PITTSTON – For voters who will elect judges to the Luzerne County bench this year, Sandy Insalaco Sr. had some advice.
“You shouldn’t select a judge who’s going to learn on the job,” he said. “Joe Saporito is ready, and he’s ready now.”
Insalaco, a local businessman and campaign chairman for Saporito, introduced him Thursday as a candidate for county judge before a crowd of supporters at the Pittston Memorial Library.
“This election is significant,” said Saporito, 50, of Pittston, adding that six of the 10 judicial seats will be open.
“I announce my candidacy with a dedication to justice,” said Saporito, a Republican who will cross file for the May primary.
He is a partner in the firm of Saporito, Saporito & Falcone. For the past 26 years he has practiced law in state and federal courts, representing clients in criminal and civil cases ranging from homicide to wills and estate administration.
“All of these matters in some form or another come before the court, and none of the issues will be new to me as a judge,” he said.
Skilled in the law and respected by his peers, he said, his experiences gained as a husband, father and member of numerous community, church and school organizations shape him as a person.
“I also want to bring my human experience to the bench as well,” he said.
In April he and his wife, Giovanna, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They have two children, Sarah, who attends St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia; and Joseph, a student at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
He concluded by recalling his late father, Joseph Sr., who was an attorney for 55 years.
“He left me a legacy of integrity, trust and respect. I promise to uphold it and I give you my word,” Saporito said.
