The Misericordia women’s swim team won a pair of relays and placed four swimmers in the 50 freestyle to sit in first place after the first day of the MAC Championships.

Breanna Grzech, Brittany Luzik, Chelsea Mixon and Alicia Bryk opened the finals with a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.18) as the Cougars won the event for the fourth consecutive season.

The same quartet combined to shave seven seconds of the school record to win the 400 medley relay (4:01.34).

Mixon finished second in the 50 free (24.94) while Bryk and Grzech were fourth and fifth, respectively, and Kiana Ramirez was eighth.

The King’s women’s swimming team stands in sixth place through 10 events with 76 points.

Lady Monarchs freshman Patricia Manning broke her own school record in the 200 IM with a fifth place finish at 2:16.36 bettering her previous mark of 2:19.28.

Junior Rebecca Smith broke the school record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:28.27 and in the process captured the consolation finals best mark.

MEN’S SWIMMING
Cougars in second place

Misericordia’s record-setting first day at the MAC Championships has the Cougars in second place in the team standings.

The Cougars won three events while setting three pool records.

Greg Vossler was a three-time champion while helping the Cougars set three new records. Vossler set school, pool and MAC Championships records while winning the 50 freestyle (21.00).

Vossler teamed with Adam Grzech, Eric Schollmeyer and Jeff Clark to win the 200 freestyle relay in a school, pool and MAC record (1:24.85).

Vossler, Grzech, Clark and Matt Moates established a school, pool and MAC record to win the 400 medley relay (3:28.03).

Misericordia has 207 points and trails Albright in the team standings.

King’s finished day one of competition in ninth place with 21 total points.

Sophomore Jack Harrington (5:17.04) and Joshua DeBellas (5:19.63) finished 15th and 16th, respectively, in the 500 freestyle.

The team of Harrington, Justin Weilert, Joe Wescoat and Eric Stencovage swam finished ninth in the 200 freestyle relay.

WRESTLING
Ithaca 29, Wilkes 5

Chris Smith upset sixth-ranked Matt Mahon at heavyweight, but it was just one of two victories for the 13th-ranked Colonels in a loss to No. 4 Ithaca.

A takedown by Smith at the end of the second gave him a 4-2 lead over Mahon heading into the final period. Mahon then came back with a takedown of his own with 55 seconds to go to knot the score before Smith escaped, getting the narrow one-point victory.

Daniel Brown got the first of the Colonels two wins at 197.
